So there are plenty of unique wedding themes out there to choose from but this has to be one of our favourites as it’s so much fun! If you’ve already decided that a traditional wedding is not for you and you’re looking for an idea thats more relaxed and all about immersing yourselves into a day of total enjoyment then the festival theme may be just what you’re looking for!
EMBRACE THE BOHO SPIRIT
The great thing about this theme is that here are no hard and fast rules. You can have as much fun breaking all the usual rules as you like…. why not send festival tickets or lanyards instead of regular wedding invites? You could even request a casual dress code or bring a bottle to make sure everyone gets into the spirit of a more relaxed day. The same goes for picking a venue; no rules…… As well as the usual possibilities of country house, barn or castle, where a festival would work brilliantly, you can also consider village halls, or talk to a local farmer about renting a field. Nothing says festival more than a cool tipi (and there are plenty to hire on the market), but you could also consider a colourful circus big top and recommend local glamping sites for your guests instead of the usual hotel list.
Decorating your venue can be great fun too…. think bunting, festival signage, plenty of balloons and fairy lights or lanterns hanging from trees in the evening. You could even incorporate some creative time into your hen do to craft some of the decor for the day.
You can still hire tables for a sit down meal with your friends and family, but remember if you’ve chosen a field or farm venue a hot meal may be problematic…. work with a local catering firm for a seasonal but fun buffet or even think about hiring festival style catering trucks or food stalls for authenticity.
For your drinks either hire a converted shepherd hut bar or take on the bar duties yourselves by providing beer in kegs, bottles in bathtubs of ice or cocktails in urns for guests to help themselves. If you’re opting for a filed venue bringing your own drinks can really keep down the costs.
Do it yourself favours are really popular right now and a great fit for a festival theme. We love candy bars as well as popcorn or ice-cream stands. In the evening there’s nothing better than snacks or casual canapés around a campfire.
BIG STAGE ENTERTAINMENT
In this area the sky is the limit as you can really have fun at festival weddings so try to be really imaginative. Of course live music springs to mind first so hiring a band or singer is perfect. This doesn’t have to cost the earth as you can ask your local pub about their live acts or take the time to talk to buskers in your local town (many are really talented and could cost a fraction of a professional wedding act).
Other amazing ideas to consider for the day include festival themed photo booths, outdoor oversized games, circus acts, bouncy castles or even carousel rides, rodeo bull rides and temporary tattoo stations. You really can’t go wrong as the guests will love anything that feels more like a festival atmosphere so let your imagination run wild…
FREE SPIRITED FASHION
This is time to forget classic bridal fashion and go all out bohemian. Discover your free spirited side by considering a simple sheath dress with a removable modern bolero or cape. These can range from lace boleros featuring retro batwing sleeves, or soft silk chiffon boleros through to a complete long lace overlay. Forget corsets and boning in favour of floaty relaxed styling to allow you to join in with all the fun of the day. Forget stilettos or heels of any kind as you’ll abandon them within the first hour of sinking into the grass…. but there are some fab bridal wedges, sandals and flip flops on the market (or even bridal wellies if the field is a bit on the damp side).

LOOK THE PART
Boho styling is also the way to go with all your bridal accessories. There are plenty of boho options rather than the traditional tiara which still allows you a little sparkle. One of the best options to consider are hair vines. This are available in silver, gold, bronze and rose gold to best suit your outfit choice and hair colouring. Try to opt for styles which incorporate floral elements as this will look like a sparkling garland of flowers or leaves in your hair and fit in perfectly with the festival vibe.
Another option to consider would be a modern clip or comb with relaxed styling and matching contemporary or unfussy jewellery. The less regal the style also means you’ll get more use in the future as you’ll be more likely to wear the jewellery again and again.
For a cool festival look try mixing metals by wearing stacked toggle bracelets of silver, gold and rose gold together… the is a big trend right now and always looks amazing with relaxed bridal wear.
Don’t forget your bridesmaids and opt for modern jewellery choices like sparkling hoop or long drop earrings and subtle hair clips featuring flowers and leaves.
